In Design lab we were placed in groups and asked to select our own passion project. When first presented with this assignment, our team immediately wanted to do something that would give purpose, significance, and assurance to a group of people. As we continued to brainstorm, we started talking about the natural disasters that had recently happened all around America. We shared a sense of fear and apprehension about feeling powerless to any and all catastrophes. How could we be more ready for the unknown? We realized that as millennials, despite our best intentions we were all quite unprepared. This is the initial brainstorm process that set us down the path of this passion project—Ready for Whatever. For my part of the project I decided to create a map, inspired by the work of Paula Scher, that would encourage millennials to be aware of the natural disasters that could happen anywhere in the U.S. The project required a great amount of research and several drafts both written and digital.
